Elite Sprint Run, Maximum Edge Retention
The Spyderco Lil’ Native Sprint Run showcases CPM-15V tool steel, optimized by Shawn Houston’s specialized heat-treating protocol to achieve maximum sharpness and edge retention. This limited-edition model elevates the pocket-friendly Lil’ Native design with a 2.42" stonewashed CPM-15V leaf-shaped blade, full-flat ground for slicing efficiency. The brown peel-ply-textured G10 handle is precision machined to house Spyderco’s patented Compression Lock mechanism, ensuring secure lockup and finger-safe operation. A reversible wire deep-pocket clip allows discreet tip-up carry for both right- and left-handed users. Lightweight at just 2.5 oz, this Sprint Run combines elite steel performance with compact everyday carry convenience, distinguished by Shawn Houston’s “Triple B” logo laser engraved on the reverse side of the blade.

Spyderco's most popular models are probably its mid-size & full-size folders–the Para 3, PM2, Delica 4, Native 5, Tenacious—and for good reason: they are well-designed and engineered tools. Personally however, I think what Spyderco does best are what company founder Sal Glesser calls their "Little Big Knives", small knives that punch (or cut, as it were) above their weight class due to a combination of select materials, excellent ergonomics & robust construction. This Sprint run Lil' Native is a great example of this approach to the small folder. It features a CPM 15V blade treated according to a custom protocol designed by knifemaker Shawn "Big Brown Bear" Houston to extract the best balance of edge retention, toughness, and sharpening response from the vaunted tool steel. Its handle and finger choil offer a surprising amount of gripping area for such a small folder. It features a very strong locking mechanism in the Compression Lock (arguably one of the top 3 or 4 lock designs in terms of strength). And its blade has just enough material behind the edge that it can hold up to more demanding jobsite knife tasks while not compromising cutting efficiency. It's unfortunate that CPM 15V is no longer being produced after Crucible's 2025 bankruptcy & closure since it is in the "Little Big Knife" format that the steel's elite qualities truly get to shine (Erasteel, the company that acquired most of Crucible's assets, has announced that it has no plans to continue making the steel due to low demand). So grab this version of the Lil' Native (or any of Spyderco's 15V knives) while you still can if you want a piece of literal knife metallurgy history. But even in its basic S30V configuration, the Lil' Native with the Compression Lock is an excellent, work-ready small folder.
